What is a Brazilian?
A Brazilian wax is the complete removal of the hair on the pubic region, the labia, and the crack.
How long does the hair need to be to be waxed?
We require at least 1/4 inch of length. That’s about the length of a grain of rice. It is important to have enough hair growth when you come for your appointment. This allows the wax to adhere the hairs more effectively.
Do I have to be naked?
No, not completely. But we will need you to undress from the waist down, including your underwear. I know it’s a little unnerving for you, but trust me; we do these ALL day long. To us, it’s all just skin and hair. So, please don’t feel embarrassed. We will do our best to put you completely at ease!
Do I need to cancel if I have my period?
No! It doesn’t bother us at all. Just use a tampon and we will work around the string. You’d be surprised at how often that happens.
How often should I wax?
We recommend every 4-5 weeks. Some clients experience a slower or faster rate of hair growth, and that time can be changed accordingly. Your esthetician will help you determine an ideal rotation based on your specific needs.
Does waxing cause ingrown hairs?
Possibly. Some people get ingrown hairs no matter what type of depilation they choose. Exfoliating every 3 days and using an ingrown hair eliminator that contains a combination of AHAs and BHAs, can help this. We carry an excellent product called Serious Serum which is very effective for post-wax skin conditioning.
Will I be perfectly smooth after my first wax?
It’s possible but not probable. Some clients are smooth as a baby’s bottom after their first experience. However, it is common that after the first 2 or 3 waxing’s you may feel a little bit of stubble. This occurs most frequently with clients that have coarse, dark hair, and it is most common with leg waxing’s. The reason for stubble is because your hair grows on 3 different cycles, each lasting about 28 days. It takes a few services for your hairs to all grow out long enough to be grabbed entirely by the wax.
Will it make my hair grow back thicker?
Definitely not. Waxing does not cause your hair to thicken. In fact, if you become a regular waxer, you will notice that your hair will become quite sparse and not as coarse.
Will it make my hair grow back darker?
No. Waxing will not change the pigment of your hair.
How much does a Brazilian hurt?
Well, let’s just say it doesn’t feel great. But the worst part is the anticipation. Once your first time is over and you understand what to expect, it’s a breeze. Plus, we always keep chatting to keep your mind off of the pain. Before you know it…you’re done!
What if I have a really low pain tolerance?
We suggest taking a mild pain reliever like Aleve or Tylenol 30 minutes before your appointment. This can help to lessen any ouch you may experience during your services.
How long does it take to do a Brazilian?
It all depends on the client. Usually 15-30 minutes. The first time is the longest, and then the monthly upkeep is much faster.
Why should I wax?
Waxed hair grows back smooth and fine, unlike the stubble that shaving causes. Each time you wax, the hair follicle weakens and can eventually die, leaving you with less hair. Waxing also lasts significantly longer than other epilation methods.
Is waxing sanitary?
Absolutely! We adhere to the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation, and we do not double dip!
Anything else I should know about waxing?
You should refrain from using waxing as a hair-removal method if you are using Retin-A (currently or in the last 3 months), Acutance (currently or in the past 4 months), other medications that increase skin exfoliation, or are sunburned or recovering from a recent laser peel.
I’m nervous! Can my partner/spouse/friend come into the appointment with me?
Our policy is to allow one person in the treatment room at a time. We have found that this allows us to give the absolute best and most professional service available.
Can I bring my child in the appointment with me?
That is a completely personal decision. If you have a baby and they are comfortable in their car seat, or a child that can entertain themselves during your appointment, then absolutely. However, we truly want to focus on you during your appointment! Although we all love the little ones, sometimes an inquisitive child can get in the way of a smooth Brazilian or the perfect brow wax.

Will I break out after a facial?
Facials are an external way to detoxify. When you detoxify, your body rids itself of toxins and impurities, oftentimes through the skin. Getting rid of this junk can give you more energy than you’ve ever had before and it can leave your skin looking luminous. But before you get to that luminous point, you may first break out in pimples as toxins release through the skin.
What are extractions?
Extractions are done for blackheads and whiteheads. You produce oil, which gets extruded through your pores. If your oils just sit there and oxidizes, then it becomes a blackhead. Whiteheads are oil that is trapped under the skin and will need help to get released. That is where extractions come in. We apply heat and serums to soften the oils then use implements to help release the debris in the clogged pore.
Do I need to remove all my makeup before my service?
No, we’ll take care of that for you.
How often should I be getting facials?
For the best results we recommend monthly. This helps purge and soften the skin keeping those new skin cells healthy.

How long do lash extensions last?
Your own lashes have a life span of 2-3 months, however they are constantly renewing themselves. It’s recommended for the first re-visit to take place approx. 2-3 weeks after the original application in order to keep that full, luscious look.
How long does the application take?
An application of eyelash extensions takes between 75 min- 2 hours depending on the client’s request of volume and desired look. It will also depend on whether it is a fill or a full set.
Will the extensions damage my own lashes?
No, our estheticians have been trained to apply a single lash to a single lash in order to give you the best results, however extensions could be damaging if they are pulled off or rubbed frequently.
Can I wear makeup and cleanse my face while I have extensions?
Yes you can! However, lashes should not be in contact with water within 24h of application. Facial steaming, rubbing eyes or taking a steam bath is not recommended within 2 days of the process. Care must be taken when using skincare products as they may contain oils which affect the bonding of lash extensions. You will also want to make sure not to use a waterproof mascara with extensions.
Will I be able to get the lashes wet?
Yes you can but only after the bonding agent has completely cured, please do not swim or sauna for 48h after the procedure.

Will it make my lashes look thicker?
Unfortunately not, the tint only colors the existing lashes so it can give the appearance of thickness. Thus it is only effective if there are existing hairs to tint.
Can I tint dark lashes?
You can, but you might not be happy with the results. Clients with lighter lashes will definitely notice more dramatic results.

What will my skin look like afterward?
The first day after these treatments your skin will feel a little tight. You will want to make sure to use plenty of moisturizer. The following days you will notice light to medium peeling. The peeling is rather similar to a sunburn.
Does it hurt?
There are certain serums used that give the skin a tingling, burning and itching feeling. This is why you will be given a hand held fan in order to cool down and minimize any discomfort. Your esthetician will also pay close attention to your skin and your pain tolerance to make sure you get the best results.
Can I wear makeup afterward?
Preferably not.
Is there any downtime?
You may experience some redness after treatment, and the use of makeup is not recommended. Most people take allow for a day or two before resuming normal activities.
Can I be outside afterward?
It is highly discouraged. You will want to keep your body temperature down. Some of the serums used continue working long after you’ve left Exuviate. You’ll get better results if you keep your body temperature down.

SofTap is the gentlest method you will find for implanting permanent color into the skin. The sensation is said to be similar to tweezing. If you are sensitive, your professional will use topical anesthetic on your eyebrows. Lips and eyeliner always require topical anesthetic.
Does is look good?
Yes, with the SofTap method, you can have natural looking makeup 24/7. Because this process is done by hand, it is easy to avoid harsh, dark, and unnatural permanent makeup.
Do I get a say in how my makeup is done?
Of course. Your professional wouldn’t dream of giving you a design you didn’t want. This is a process in which the both of you work together to find what works for you—after all it is for you!
How long will it last?
This depends on the color and style you have chosen. If you choose a subtle, light color and application, expect to need more touch ups than if you choose a dark color and heavier application. It is important to understand that while very dark colors and heavy applications require little or no touch ups, they do not look as natural and therefore are not recommended.
Will I need a touch up?
Most likely. Light color and light applications need touch ups to stay looking natural. Medium applications need fewer touch ups, but you still need them. If you have a very dark color implanted deeply in your skin, you may never need a touch up. We recommend a lighter color and more touch ups for a more natural look.
How often should I come in to refresh the color?
In order to keep your permanent makeup looking fresh, we recommend a touch up every two years for light brows and eyeliner, every five years for medium brows and dark eyeliner, and probably once in ten years for lips. Lips usually retain color very well once they are successfully implanted.
Why do I need a touch up if this is permanent?
Because color is implanted in the facial area there tends to be more fluid circulation than other parts of the body. Your face sees the most wear of any piece of you—exposure to the sun, food, facial products—the list goes on and on. All of these things cause permanent color to fade, this is why you need a touch up.
How can I extend the life of my procedure?
Your beautiful permanent makeup will last longer if you apply sun block daily and avoid abrasive facial treatments in the brow area.
How should I prepare before the procedure?
If you are sensitive, you may take an over the counter pain reliever approximately one hour prior to your procedure. Do not take aspirin or any other blood thinners as these promote bleeding. If you are having your eyeliner done, refrain from wearing contact lenses and eye makeup, conventional eye makeup may leave residue and make the procedure more difficult. For lip procedures, you may obtain a prescription to prevent viral outbreaks if you are prone to this.
How long does the procedure take?
This will vary with the type of work you are having done and your sensitivity. Generally speaking, basic eyebrow fills, eyelash enhancements, and straightforward lip liner each take a little under two hours. More complicated work such as thick eyeliner, eyebrows with hair strokes, and full lips take a little over two hours.
Is there any reason why I shouldn’t get it done?
There are a few cases (medical conditions, medication etc) where permanent makeup may not be right or possible for you. Ask your professional about your case at your consultation.
Can I resume normal activity, exercising, gardening, etc?
Most normal activities can be resumed right away. Heavy exercise should be avoided for at least a week for best results—any sweat formed on your brows can fade your color while healing. Swimming should be on hold for at least a week, pool chemicals would erode color as well. Outdoors activities such as gardening or golf can be resumed as long as your treatment area remains clean, dry, and out of the sun. For best results do not expose your procedure to any unnecessary wear.
Is there going to be any scabbing?
There can be scabbing if your skin is sensitive. Eyeliner procedures tend to scab more than eyebrows. DO NOT pick off these scabs; picking scabs may result in a loss of color or minor scarring.
Why do I see color flaking off after about a week?
This can happen for a number of reasons, but it usually has to do with skin type. Older skin, more weathered skin, and drier skin may flake color off during the healing process. There should be color underneath, but if not, your professional will touch up your color at your follow up appointment.
Will I be swollen?
Eyebrows swell slightly. Swelling is normal and expected for lip and eyeliner procedures. We recommend ice packs ten minutes each hour for the first three hours after these procedures to minimize swelling.
Will I have to hide from my friends?
No! You can go out that night if you want to. Ice the area, apply your ointment, and have a ball!

Why do my eyebrows look so dark during the healing process?
This is a result of the natural oxidation process that takes place in the skin once pigment has been implanted. The color reacts slowly with oxygen in the air, turning it darker. This is a completely natural and normal occurrence for our pigments.
I had my brows done and they’re too dark, can I change the color?
SofTap colors are truly awesome in this respect. We can change red to brown, black to blonde—there are many possibilities. If your brows are too dark, come in and see us for a color correction. Can I get my lips bright red, like fire engine red?
No, no matter what brand of pigment is used, you will never get fire engine red lips because of the blue undertones present in all natural lips. This blue mixing with red will create a pink or mauve tone, not a true red. Our lip colors are designed to give you the sexiest look possible for everyday wear. Your professional can custom blend our lip colors to give you something that defines your lips better, but don’t expect fire engine red.
If I have a lot of melanin in my skin, can I get a brighter berry color for my lips?
People who naturally have very dark lips have a lot of melanin in their skin, which tends to turn pigment darker than its original shade. Berry shades and brighter colors MAY be achieved for your lips, but it is more difficult to do. Have your professional do a patch test on your lip first to see how certain colors heal up. Often, these lips types require lip colors that look very bright before implantation, so that they can heal to your desired color.
Why do my lips look like I lost all my color?
Lips are made up of very thin skin with a lot of blood flow underneath the dermal layer—hence the natural pink color. Increased circulation, combined with the natural exfoliation of your lips, makes it very hard for lips to retain color. This is why lips are usually not considered complete until after two or three treatments.
